ICL: Freedom From Glasses, Even With Very High Power

When your number is too high or your cornea too thin for LASIK, an Implantable Collamer Lens gives you crisp, HD-quality vision — without removing any corneal tissue. Reversible, invisible, and life-changing.

Overview

What is ICL?

An ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is an ultra-thin, flexible lens placed inside the eye, between the iris and your natural lens — think of it as a permanent contact lens you never feel, never clean, and never replace. Made of collamer, a biocompatible material containing collagen, it sits invisibly and corrects your full prescription day and night.

Because nothing is removed from the cornea, ICL is the treatment of choice for very high myopia (up to about −20D), high astigmatism (toric ICL), thin or irregular corneas, and dry-eye-prone patients. Modern EVO lenses have a central port, so no separate iris procedure is needed. The implant takes about 20–30 minutes for both eyes, and — a unique reassurance — it can be removed or exchanged if your needs ever change.

When to consider it

  •   Power beyond LASIK's comfortable range (myopia −8D to −20D, or high astigmatism)
  •   You were told your corneas are too thin or irregular for laser
  •   Severe dry eyes
  •   You're 21–45 with a stable prescription
  •   You want the option of reversibility
  •   Athletes and defence aspirants wanting maximum corneal strength.

Your surgeon may advise waiting if

  • The space inside your eye is too shallow (measured at evaluation)
  • You have uncontrolled glaucoma or certain eye conditions
  • You're pregnant/nursing (temporary). Your free evaluation settles it definitively.

Recovery timeline

Day 0–1
  • Halos and light-sensitivity are normal as pupils recover; rest with dark glasses. Many patients already notice dramatically sharper vision.
Day 2–7
  • Most routine work resumes; avoid rubbing, swimming, dusty environments and heavy lifting.
Weeks 2–4
  • Vision quality stabilises to its final, HD-crisp level; normal gym and sports return per your surgeon's advice.

Safety & honesty

Over 3 million ICLs have been implanted worldwide with very high satisfaction (99%+ in manufacturer registries). Because no corneal tissue is removed, quality-of-vision issues like permanent dryness are far less common than with laser surgery at high powers. Risks are rare but real — pressure rise, early lens repositioning, cataract formation over decades — which is why precise sizing, senior surgeons and disciplined follow-ups are non-negotiable at ReliveCure. And if your anatomy isn't right for ICL, we'll say so and offer alternatives.
